5 September : a new Leica Digilux : the Digilux 4.3
Just as for its preceding model, the Digilux Zoom, Leica has based the Digilux 4.3 on a Fujifilm model, here the Finepix 4700 whose main specifications are maintained : 2.4 Mpixels SuperCCD sensor, 3x optical zoom, USB port, audio and video sequences, all in an elegant pocket casing.
August : Save pictures directly on a mini CD-R thanks to the Sony MVC-CD1000

September : Kodak is renewing its line of products with the new 3-digits model :the DC 3400
Similar in shape to the Kodak DC280, the DC3400 is also mostly similar in terms of specs : 2.3 Mpixels sensor, 2x zoom, USB port.
September 6th : Fujifilm goes the same way with its new Finepix 2400
This camera will in term replace the successfull Finepix 1400, with a 2 Mpixels sensor instead of 1.3 Mpixels. USB port and 3 x zoom are kept, macro is possible from 10 cm and a burst continuous mode is possible in VGA mode (640 x 480).
Fuji is also announcing a Finepix 1300 to replace the Finepix 1200, with a 1.3 Mpixels sensor (why not go to the Finepix 1400 directly ??).
 CANON introduces an even smaller digital camera : the Digital Ixus (June 10th).
The Digital Ixus is a 2 megapixel camera, with a 2x optical zoom (equivalent to a 35-70 mm on a classical 24 x 36 camera), a real image viewfinder, a classical USB port, and all in a 8.8 x 5.8 x 2.7 cm box. Pictures (max 1600 x 1200 pixels) are stored on Type I compactflash cards (up to 128 Mb).
Sold as a notebook or almost
as a piece of jewelry as a gift, this camera sells for 662
euros ($630).

Casio launches a new MP3 audio reader watch with their WMP-1(available June 2000)
This watch can store up to 16 minutes of CD equivalent quality music, or 33 minutes of FM radio quality sound. Downloading a 4 min record from a PC takes 70 seconds only.
WMP-1 at 275 euros ($255).
Also to be noticed, the WQV-1camera watch at 190 euros ($175).

and is supposed to become available in November at an unchanged price

 July : A less than 3000 euros pro digital camera : the Canon EOS-D30 utilizing a 3.25 Mpixels CMOSsensor (2160 x 1440 images). The EOS-D30 supports all EF lenses,and is compatible with both compactflash Type I, II cards and 170/340 Mb IBM microdrives. Its Lithium-Ion batteries give it an excellent autonomy of more than 500 pictures.
